When your check engine light comes on, there could be a number of issues. It could be something basic, like a loose gas cap, or it could be something serious. The best way to ensure that you are safe behind the wheel is to bring your vehicle into our shop for a multi-point inspection. We can find the issue and make you aware of it so you can choose whether or not you want to take the next steps to getting your vehicle back to peak conditions.
The honest answer is there is only one way to give you the exact cost of repair that you need to budget and make decisions, and that is by getting your car in the shop. At that point, we have the specific vin, submodel, and any other information our technicians need to give you an exact cost for the repair. I know it seems like you are saving money when you shop around for the best price, but by getting it in and properly diagnosed we are able to save you time,money and prevent unnecesary repair and comebacks.
There are different levels of diagnostics. A code scan is included in our complimentary vehicle inspections. This is similar to what they offer at part stores using more advanced scan tools. This gives a code that indicates the area that needs attention and is the first step in trouble shooting. The codes were never meant to pinpoint a problem or specify which part to replace. If our customer decides to proceed with further diagnostics we start with level 1 including an hour of diagnostic time, communicating the progress as they work. Most issues are found during this level of diagnostics. For complex issues such as electrical it requires more time and diagnostic specialist, the cost will vary by car make and model. Communication and customer awareness and approval is key throughout the process and handled with care.
